Introduction:
The ethos of KIC has been informed by the work of those working in areas of need and disadvantage in terms of access to the arts. KIC annually recruits for preparatory and advanced training projects from its outreach programme. Each year KIC Peer Leadership trainees apply their skill in support of teenagers in outreach projects.
Urban: Lisburn
KIC has facilitated the emergence of The Island Youth Theatre Project (IYT) over the past 5 years. The island Youth Theatre Project is an independent voluntary organisation managed by representatives from key agencies providing for young people in the city of Lisburn. IYT has evolved as an ’Äòinclusive' youth theatre project that offers drama training for young people from an extraordinarily wide spectrum of ability, social, educational, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
The IYT Management Committee welcomes the involvement of organisations providing for minorities or marginalized youth. The youth membership is open to 13-18 year olds who want to find out just how different, varied and creative a group of teenagers can be.
Recruitment workshops for the 2006 IYT programme will take place at The Island Arts Centre, Lisburn on Wednesday 28 th and Thursday 29 th June at 7pm. A programme at the Island Arts Centre will run from 18 th September each Monday evening through until December, finishing with a public performance.
