Jade
Hale: KIC Assistant Director
Jade studied at Belfast Royal Academy up to A Level and
is currently studying for a B.Sc. in Marketing at The
University of Ulster. Her work with KIC has ranged from
peer leadership in numerous community projects, including
supporting the learning disabled in projects such as Positive
Futures and Brook Children Together, to working on the
KIC Artistic Team in projects such as Island Youth Theatre,
New Mutiny and the current KIC Core Group production,
Mercury Tilt. Jade is an accomplished performer who has
travelled widely in Europe with KIC and absorbed training
from some Europes foremost youth theatre practitioners.
She is now making original choreography with KIC.
Of her time in KIC Jade says, In KIC I have learned
not to move to catch the eye or be like others, but to
move in a way that I have discovered for myself. KIC tutors
have a very strong vision of dance and drama, and they
grab the things they need from wherever they can find
them. Their work is difficult to categorise because they
want the skills they teach to be personalised by young
people. I have grown-up in a KIC environment that constantly
asks me to be myself and I have no desire to be trained
in one style or another at a dance or drama school. People
find it odd that I am studying marketing after so much
time in KIC, but I can see myself arriving at a KIC workshop
in a business suit, carrying a briefcase, and then turning
out on the workshop floor in training gear and pigtails
in years to come. There is no cut off point to gowing
up and I know that I will always be asked in KIC to create
from the person I happen to be at any time of my life.
